Ellen Makofsky has been named among the Top 50 Women Superlawyers in the New York-Metro area
Ellen G. Makofsky is a cum laude graduate of Brooklyn Law School and is a founding partner of Raskin & Makofsky, LLP.
Ellen G. Makofsky was selected as a Top 50 Women SuperLawyer in 2010. This is the second consecutive year she has been selected as a SuperLawyer. Ms. Makofsky serves as At-Large Member of the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association (“NYSBA”) the governing body of the NYSBA. She serves on the Association’s Membership and continuing Legal Education Committee. She is the Past Chair of the NYSBA, Elder Law Section. She is certified by the National Elder Law Foundation as a Certified Elder Law Attorney (“CELA”). Ms. Makofsky serves as Vice President of the Estate Planning Council of Nassau County, Inc. She is a member of the NYSBA’s Trusts and Estates Law Section. Ms. Makofsky is a member of Nassau County Bar Association, Elder Law, Social Services and Health Advisory Committee and the Surrogate’s Court Trusts and Estates Committee. She is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Inc. (“NAELA”) and the American Bar Association.
Ms. Makofsky is President and a founder of the Sun Council Inc. and is one of the founders of the Senior Umbrella Network of Queens and is a past chair of the organization. She is former co-chair of Long Island Alzheimer’s Foundation (“LIAF”) Legal Advisory Board and is past president of the Gerontology Professionals of Long Island, Nassau Chapter. She is a former co-chair of the Senior Umbrella Network of Nassau. Ms. Makofsky serves on the Board of the Children’s Center of Port Washington, Ms. Makofsky has served as a Trustee of Landmark on Main Street and was a member of the board of the Community Chest of Port Washington both groups being community-based organizations in Port Washington, NY.
Ms. Makofsky writes on Elder Law and trust and estate topics frequently. She is the author of the Advanced Directives News Column which appears in a quarterly publication of the New York State Bar Association entitled Elder Law Attorney.
In 2010 Ms. Makofsky was named a 2010 Woman of Distinction by 7th Senatorial District of New York State. Ms. Makofsky recently received the 2009 award from the NYSBA Elder Law Section for her efforts in furtherance of the rights of the elderly and person with disabilities. In the past several years, Ms. Makofsky was also honored by the Long Island Alzheimer’s Association; The Visiting Nurse Association of Long Island; and the Nassau County Bar Association for the services she has provided to the elderly. Ms. Makofsky has appeared on the radio and televisions and is a frequent guest lecturer and workshop leader for professional and community groups.
