Judy Raskin is certified by the National
Elder Law Foundation as a Certified Elder Law Attorney, (“CELA”). She
currently serves as the Chair of the Legal Committee of the Alzheimer’s
Association, Long Island Chapter. Judy Raskin earned a B.A. degree from Alfred University and a Master of Science degree from Brooklyn College. Mrs. Raskin taught science in the public schools and raised a family before entering law school and receiving a Juris Doctor degree from Hofstra Law School. As
part of the legal community concerned with issues affecting the elderly, Judy
Raskin maintains membership in the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys,
Inc. (a professional association of attorneys concerned with improving the
availability and delivery of legal services to the elderly population); the
New York State Bar Association where she is a member of the Elder Law Section
and the Trusts and Estates Law Section; and the Nassau County Bar Association
where she is a member of the Elder Law, Social Services and Health Advocacy
Committee, the Surrogate's Trusts and Estates Committee, and the Tax Law
Committee. She is a member of the Estate Planning Council of Nassau County. Mrs.
Raskin was a co-founder of the Gerontology Professionals of Long Island,
Nassau Chapter and served as its president. She writes a regular column for
the Elder Law Attorney, the newsletter of the Elder Law Section of the
New York State Bar Association. Mrs.
Raskin is a member of the Legal Committee of the Alzheimer's Association,
Long Island Chapter. She has been
honored by the Visiting Nurse Association and the Alzheimer’s Association,
Long Island Chapter. Ms.
Raskin shares her knowledge with community groups and professional
organizations. She has appeared on
radio and television and served as a workshop leader and lecturer for the New
York State Bar Association as well as numerous other professional and community
groups. |

Ellen
G. Makofsky is a cum laude graduate of Brooklyn Law School. She is a partner
in the law firm of Raskin & Makofsky with offices in Garden City, New
York. The firm’s practice concentrates in elder law, estate planning,
guardianships and estate administration. Ms. Makofsky is the Immediate
Past Chair of the New York State Bar Association (“NYSBA”) Elder Law Section
and is a member of the NYSBA House of Delegates and serves on the Membership
Committee of the NYSBA. She is
certified by the National Elder Law Foundation as a Certified Elder Law
Attorney (“CELA”). Ms. Makofsky serves on the Executive Board of the Estate
Planning Council of Nassau County, Inc.
She is a member of the NYSBA’s Trusts and Estates Law Section. Ms. Makofsky is a member of Nassau County
Bar Association, Elder Law, Social Services and Health Advisory Committee and
the Surrogate's Court Trusts and Estates Committee. She is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys,
Inc. (”NAELA”). Ms.
Makofsky is one of the founders of the Senior Umbrella Network of Queens and
is a past chair of the organization.
She is immediate past co-chair of the Long Island Alzheimer’s
Foundation (“LIAF”) Legal Advisory Board and is past president of the
Gerontology Professionals of Long Island, Nassau Chapter. She is a former co-chair of the Senior
Umbrella Network of Nassau. Ms.
Makofsky has served as a Trustee of Landmark on Main Street and as a member
of the board of the Community Chest of Port Washington both groups being
community-based organizations in Port Washington, NY. Ms.
Makofsky writes on Elder Law and trust and estate topics frequently. She is
the author of the Advance Directive News Column which appears in a quarterly
publication of the New York State Bar Association entitled Elder Law Attorney.
